Dedicated pilots and crew of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service
(WLRHS) have had their lives made a little easier thanks to a popular healthy meal service provider.
Surf Life Saving Queensland’s WLRHS is one of the oldest community-based helicopter rescue services in the world, operating across southeast Queensland since 1976.
In a new partnership for the WLRHS, Lite n’ Easy will provide almost $20,000 per year worth of meals to help fuel the crew members when they are on duty protecting Queenslanders.
This new support will help the dedicated women and men who patrol our skies and rescue those in need to keep doing what they do best.
The WLRHS, based at Caloundra Airport, relies on the generous support of businesses such as Lite n’ Easy to help keep the service operating.
It costs nearly $250,000 for just one rotor blade, and $250 worth of fuel for every hour on patrol over the coastline.

WLRHS chief pilot Paul Gibson said Lite n’ Easy’s support would ensure the crew enjoyed a nutritious meal while duty.
“During peak times or rescue operations, our crew can often run out of time to consume a nutritious meal,” Mr Gibson said.
“Having Lite n’ Easy meals readily available at the hangar for them to enjoy will ensure they have the energy needed to carry out the important work they do.
“Our crew are very grateful for this partnership and the support of Lite n’ Easy.”
Lite n’ Easy CEO Dennis Stark said he was delighted to be able to provide the pilots, crew and volunteers of the WLRHS with healthy and delicious food every day from the range of prepared meals.
“As an Australian-owned business, we’re committed to helping all Australians lead healthier, longer, more active lives and we are proud to be supporting the men and women of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service who are out there keeping our beaches safe and saving lives every day,” Mr Stark said.
The WLRHS is the ‘eyes in the sky’ for the Sunshine Coast and typically can be seen above beaches over school holidays and peak times to ensure all residents and visitors are safe in the water.

A spokesperson said the chopper typically headed out as the tide was changing as this was the most difficult time for swimming and when most beachgoers could get into trouble in the water.
The service is also tasked with search and rescues and other missions that can take crew members from the beach to the bush.
The WLRHS is hosting a Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event tonight, giving guests access to the Westpac hangar for a night of food, drinks and live entertainment. For more details click here.
