The Sunshine Coast is the place to be for high-performance training.
The region is set to host the Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys and Carlton Blues in the lead-up to the NRL and AFL seasons. Port Adelaide visited in December.
The teams will base their training camp activities from Sunshine Coast Council’s Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex.
The Broncos will make the most of a week-long training camp, in between trial games against the Gold Coast Titans and the Cowboys at Sunshine Coast Stadium in February. Tickets for the matches are on sale at Ticketek.
The Cowboys will remain in the region for a training session.
There is also interest from other NRL and AFL clubs for possible training camps.
Rugby league and AFL teams have held dozens of pre-season training camps and trial games on the Sunshine Coast during the past 10 years. Councillor Jason O’Pray said the region was an ideal destination for elite sporting clubs.
“Four teams from two different sporting codes coming to the Sunshine Coast for pre-season training was excellent to showcase the region to the rest of the world,” he said.
“The popularity of the Sunshine Coast as a location for training camps is not only a direct reflection of our quality facilities such as the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex and Sunshine Coast Stadium, but our beautiful climate and world-class beaches.”
The Broncos will host an open training session at Sunshine Coast Stadium, with details to be announced.
Carlton will have an open training session at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on February 1, from 10am, and fans can register to attend here.
Keep an eye on Sunshine Coast Council or the club’s social media channels for details of sessions.
