The region’s top sports team will head into a new season bolstered by an extended partnership with a multibillion-dollar business.
The Sunshine Coast Lightning, which competes in the elite Super Netball competition, will be backed for another two years by AVID Property Group.
The two-time champions have been supported by the developer since their foundation season in 2017.
Lightning Chief Executive Officer Danielle Smith was thrilled with the extension, which was announced less than a month before the start of a new season.
“The club’s partnership with AVID, a multi-billion-dollar developer, continues to thrive as we head into year six in the world’s premier netball competition,” she said. “We look forward to the continued collaboration to raise the profile of both the Lightning and AVID while continuing to excel in our respective fields. “Community is also an important pillar for both our club and AVID and that really underpins the natural alignment in this partnership.”
AVID is an Australian developer responsible for a portfolio of residential communities in growth precincts across Australia, including Harmony at Palmview. It will boast more than 4800 homes.
AVID General Manager Queensland Bruce Harper said AVID was excited to yet again put its support behind the Lightning.
“AVID has always been dedicated to supporting the Harmony community’s local Sunshine Coast region and we are incredibly proud to be extending our corporate sponsorship for another two years with the local national team,” he said. “Last year wasn’t an easy season as the sport was impacted by the ongoing effects of COVID-19, yet the team had another incredible year making their way to their fifth consecutive finals series in the Suncorp Super Netball league. “With Lightning’s home court at the University of the Sunshine Coast just around the corner from the Harmony community, we’re thrilled to continue to support the team as they progress from strength to strength.” Harmony’s relationship with Lightning has extended beyond the court too. Star players Laura Scherian and Cara Koenen have their dream homes in the Palmview community. The Lightning will start their campaign against West Coast Fever in Perth on March 27.
