Our Mid-Century Coast Exhibition

Caloundra Regional Gallery, in collaboration with Sunshine Coast Libraries, presents the next exhibition for the Maroochydore Library Artspace. Duncan McDermant emigrated from Scotland in the 1920s. Throughout his life, he developed a strong connection to his new home in southeast Queensland. He was intrigued by history and drawn to its many stories and spent much of his life capturing the Australia he saw through his photographic works.

When: Tuesday, September 28 – Monday, October 18, from 9am to 5pm

Hinterland Farm to Fork Experience

Take a look behind the scenes of private farms to meet local producers, hear their stories and sample the amazing local produce of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Visiting a local coffee roaster and two  farms, with the final stop at Brouhaha Brewery and Restaurant for a four-course lunch featuring local produce this is the perfect tour for foodies and beer fans.

The Frog Prince

Opera Queensland, in collaboration with Shake and Stir, presents The Frog Prince. Shake & Stir is one of the country’s leading contemporary theatre companies, touring Australia and New Zealand since 2006. In this adaptation of the classic Grimm tale, spoiled 10-year-old Juniper May encounters Gilbert Gravy, a sassy frog and an unlikely friendship blossoms. They embark on a fantastical and uplifting journey together, learning about the importance of friendship and looking after the environment.

Food for Thought — Building Healthy Brains Workshop

Food for Thought is a dynamic workshop exploring ways to take control of your own brain health through conversations around the important relationship between healthy food, social connection, mindfulness and mental engagement. Listen and engage with academics from the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and the Thompson Institute as they present the latest findings in brain health. View a practical cooking demonstration of simple and nutritious food, and then take home a package of recipes and other goodies, courtesy of USC Nutrition students. This is a Senior’s Month event and is best suited to over-50s.

Oktoberfest

Dig out your lederhosen and start practising your yodelling — Oktoberfest is coming to NightQuarter. Make a night of it with German food, beer and fun as you celebrate everything there is to love about Germany and beer. Braid your hair and dust off your dirndl. Prizes will be given to the best dressed between the stein cheering and German dancing. It’s not an Oktoberfest party without German sausages and giant pretzels, so be sure to grab one.

Walking with Dinosaurs: A Guided Walk on plant life before flowers

Meet prehistoric plants from the time of the dinosaurs. Dinosaurs roamed the Earth for 200 million years, during a time when plant life and land masses looked very different. Join one of the friendly, knowledgeable guides for a leisurely walk through the botanic garden focussing on the types of plants that existed 100 million years ago during the age of dinosaurs and before flowering plants.

Nambour Gemfest

The Gemfest is a yearly event where fossickers, miners, jewellers, traders and regular folk gather together to display and sell their wares. Every year, since 2007, the Nambour Lapidary Club has been host to the popular Nambour Gemfest. Organisers are constantly striving to improve the event. They expect this year’s Gemfest to be their biggest and best yet. The art of cutting and polishing rocks and gems has long been part of their history and many would agree it is part of their DNA.

Forest bathing nature walk

Forest bathing is the new big thing — proven to boost the health and well-being of those who live their lives in stressful cities and crowded suburbs where they very rarely see our beautiful natural world. Sara Aiken will lead a wander through the gardens. Using gentle invitations, Sara will help us to experience nature in a refreshing, rejuvenating way. Please note: forest bathing does not involve getting wet.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm
