Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson will be among business and civic leaders from across Asia and the Pacific discussing hot topics at a major upcoming summit.

The 2021 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum Special Edition, to be held live online and in person at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 8-12, will be the first time mayors and local businesses across our region have gathered and connected since the pandemic began.

This year’s summit will discuss current challenges and how to capitalise on opportunities for the region.

It comes after Brisbane was elected as the host city of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is estimated to bring $8.1 billion in social and economic benefits to the state  and $17.6 billion to Australia as a whole.

Mayor Jamieson said he looked forward to showcasing the Coast and encouraged local business to get involved.

“Sunshine Coast Council has been a strong supporter of the Asia Pacific Cities Summit for some 10 years and recognises the opportunity that this event affords to showcase everything that South-East Queensland has to offer in terms of investment opportunities and potential partnerships to enhance the livability and sustainability of our cities,” he said.

“In the wake of the pandemic and with our recent success in being awarded the hosting rights for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there is so much that we can learn from the interactions with representatives of global cities in terms of how they are working to keep their communities safe, while at the same time, restoring the momentum and vitality of their economies.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the summit was an opportunity for businesses across Queensland to join the conversation and connect with other leaders.

The summit will be a chance to discuss challenges and capitalise on opportunities.

“From COVID to climate change, growing populations and life-changing innovation to Brisbane 2032 Games, these are the hot topics that will be tackled when business leaders and mayors meet next month,” Cr Schrinner said.

“The last time mayors and business leaders across the Asia Pacific and beyond came together was in 2019, and clearly a lot has changed since then.

“APCS provides an excellent platform for community leaders and local businesses to leverage the exposure of Brisbane 2032 and promote their capacity and capability to foreign businesses.

“By working together, we can be stronger. That’s why I encourage business leaders to join their mayors and register.”
