Brothers Rugby Sunshine Coast have kicked off their junior season in style with the game day ball delivered via helicopter on Friday.

The Kawana-based club will celebrate its 10th anniversary this season, after growing from humble beginnings to become one of the most popular clubs in the competition.

The game day ball was delivered by helicopter.

“We are really excited to finally have the season underway,” club president Mike Haines said.

“Our plans were severely interrupted due to COVID last year and it’s pleasing to know that we have more than doubled the number of boys and girls who have registered to play this season.”

“We’ve prided ourselves on being a community club with great facilities, excellent coaches and administrators and a welcoming culture.

“We wanted to mark this milestone occasion with something special so when our club sponsor MI Helicopters (Omni Executive) offered to deliver the match ball via chopper to launch the season we jumped at the opportunity.

“It’s going to be fantastic and we’ll have most of our junior players as well as parents and family members, sponsors, all there when our club captains Cooper Davis and Savannah Day emerge from the chopper along with our guests, local member Jarrod Bleijie, SCRU Chairman Paul Briggs and Queensland Reds backrower Sam Wallis delivering the game day ball.”

Queensland Reds player Sam Wallis will help deliver the game day ball.

Brothers Rugby Sunshine Coast will field teams from under-6 through to Junior Colts (under-16 and under-17) and will be looking to form a senior club in 2022/2023.

“We currently have more than 250 registered players and there’s no doubt that our club has benefited from an increase in popularity of the girls sevens format and Australia’s success in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games with Brothers SC now fielding four girls sevens teams across the U13, U15 and U17 age groups which provides a great opportunity for girls to become actively involved in the sport,” Haines said.
