The Sunshine Coast Lightning has helped local business Protector raise $10,000 for charity, as part of the World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Netball star Laura Scherian was among those on hand to help shave, colour and cut the hair of staff at Protector Aluminium.
Twenty staff members committed to the WGS, in a joint mission to shave the world from blood cancer Leukaemia.
Abbigail Clowes, who had her hair fully shaved, was driven to the cause after a dreadful year for health last year.
Her father, based in the UK, is also battling a range of cancers.
Despite all her personal anguish, Abbi knows she is lucky compared to what other’s go through.
“At 11 years old I donated my hair for wigs, and after the past year I had with health issues, I know it is nothing compare to what cancer patients go through,” she said.
“I wanted to give something back to assist such a great cause that we can see exactly where our efforts go.”
The Lightning jumped aboard to help with athletes there to assist, with Vanessa from Mi Salon.
“We are privileged to be involved in this worthy cause alongside our Partner in Protector Aluminum,” Lightning midcourter Scherian said.
“We hope that in playing our role, we can help raise funds that will be directly channelled towards life-saving research and to support individuals and families impacted by cancer in Australia.
“Protector’s generosity to match every dollar for dollar raised in the initiative gives us even more motivation to get involved and help in any way that we can.”
Protector Aluminium’s Business Support, Justine Johnston, had her hair cut for wigs.
Justine has family history on both sides for various cancers. She thought this was a creative way to give back and raise awareness on the fundraiser at the same time.
Protector, joined by Lightning, had a barbecue lunch to honour the cause sending a powerful message of hope.
Protector has always supported the World’s Greatest Shave, but this year has seen them take their commitment to the next level.
