No place for jetty

Read the story here

There has been a lot of talk about a Sunshine Coast jetty lately, since the Brisbane cruise terminal is less than optimal. It sounds like a great idea but I do not see any suitable locations on our Coast where one could be built at a reasonable cost.

Cruise liners require relatively calm water to come alongside a jetty in order to disembark passengers safely. All along our Coast are surf breaks which are not suitable. The only location where a large enough jetty and terminal could be built is Mooloolaba but a lot more work would need to be done at an astronomical cost. The jetty would need to be at the Spit, but we all know how hard it is to get in there on a weekend.

I think a jetty for the Sunshine Coast would be just too expensive, not to mention those who would say “not in my front yard!”.

Unfriendly locals

Read the article here

To Ashley Robinson, re your article: I read it online here in New Zealand. I walk in my home town six mornings a week, normally leaving home at 7.30am and return about one-and-a-half hours later. Ninety-nine per cent of other people walking in the mornings greet each other, some of them will even stop and have a chat.

When we have been holidaying in Mooloolaba, and we do so twice a year, I have noticed that people there do not answer a greeting, or look the other way. I decided that the locals weren’t very friendly at all. So I agree with your comments.

Celebrate together

Read the story here

I am in favour of changing the date for Australia Day on the basis that protests will stop and everyone celebrates together. So pick a date all you protesters and I will see you there for a barbecue.

If, however, the issue is really about the British invading Australia, thank goodness it wasn’t another country who found Oz. Imagine the life we would be living now … and protests would be met with tanks and water cannons.

Motorway ‘thanks’

Read the story here

I’m a Coolum resident and the Sunshine Coast can thank Dan Purdie and Ted O’Brien for their thankless work and lobbying for years to get this project off the ground. These pair of Labor Teal stooges are claiming success when the Palaszczuk Government has ignored the needs of the Coast for eight years and we are supposed to be thankful now.

The Sunshine Coast voters won’t forget at the next election.

Panel discussion: what will Olympics mean for Noosa?

Kathy Frost: While all of the admin get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, I’m not interested, it will be a huge disruption to our lifestyle on the coast, let’s face it no other country wanted it? why should we?

Brett Wills: Ah such short memories. I remember the Commonwealth Games coming to Brisbane. We all thought we’d be flat out in Noosa for a month. And nothing.

Brad De La Motte: The Olympics will be great for the Coast. Infrastructure going forward and massive injection of tourist dollars.

Options studied to improve bustling intersection

Bernie Michael: “Planning” ???? What a joke. If they had have “planned” they would have built the road south first before putting in thousands of houses.

Penny Bubke: About time it is a death trap.

Michael Ash: Bellvista Blvd needs upgrading too. 8 mins to go 1km is ridiculous.

Details revealed for world-class Olympic venues

Ben Dullroy: This would be an awesome addition to the Sunshine Coast. Rezoning the industrial estate with canal frontage and potential sea views right next door would be great too!

Marita Anne Schlaikier: Can we just get the Bruce Highway sorted first.

Darren Trinder: They are softening us up to announce the light rail project to go ahead – a Trojan horse project. The true intention is to build high density high rise apartments, effectively increasing the population between Maroochydore and Mooloolaba five fold. They will say the light rail is needed for one month of Olympic Games.
