An annual Christmas appeal is hoping to make a difference to the lives of those in the community who are struggling financially this festive season.

This year, the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal invites Noosa residents to support six local charities.

Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said the local housing crisis, rising cost of living and lingering pandemic impacts have made for a very tough year for many residents.

She hoped the appeal would be a small way to make a meaningful impact for a child or family.

“2022 has been another difficult year for many in our community in the face of the current housing crisis and the lingering impacts of the global pandemic,” Mayor Stewart said.

“This year, our local charities are looking for donations of presents for children, food items and vouchers, including vouchers to help parents cover the cost of school supplies.”

This year’s six beneficiaries are the Salvation Army Noosa, St Vincent de Paul Noosa, Santa’s Classy Helpers, Youturn Youth Support, Sunny Kids and WomenKind.

“Our local charities are doing such a great job to help those in need in our community, but they are stretched and they can’t do it alone,” Mayor Stewart said.

“Your contribution will help ensure every child receives a gift at Christmas and families have food on the table, and that kids have the supplies they need for when they head back to school next year.

“Every donation, no matter how small, helps make a difference to those dealing with significant hardship this Christmas.”

Mayor Stewart has kicked off the appeal with $500 worth of stationery store vouchers.

See Noosa Council’s website on how to donate to each charity. Alternatively gifts and vouchers can be dropped off at several locations around the Shire.

These include, Tewantin-Noosa RSL Club (Memorial Avenue, Tewantin), Noosa Council (9 Pelican Street, Tewantin) or Cooroy Library (9 Maple Street, Cooroy).
