Two cute cubs at world-famous Australia Zoo now have names, following a competition that attracted hundreds of entries.

Australia Zoo’s new red pandas were introduced as Teddy and Scarlett.

LEGO fans were given the chance to name the boy and girl cubs, which were born in December, via LEGO’s partnership with the zoo.

Red pandas are slightly bigger than domestic cats and are skillful and acrobatic animals that are at home in the trees, using their long bushy tails for balance.

Around half of their natural habitat is in the Eastern Himalayas where their fluffy tails are also handy to keep them warm.

The zoo’s affiliation with LEGO is part of the toy company’s commitment to build a sustainable and positive planet, highlighting the importance of protecting and conserving endangered animals like the Red Panda.

The red pandas are right at home in the trees.

Teddy was named by a woman from Ohio in the United States, who coincidentally celebrates the same birthday.

Scarlett was named by a long-term fan of the Irwin family and Australia Zoo, from South-East Queensland.

Troy Taylor, the Vice President & General Manager of LEGO Australia and New Zealand said the official naming of the cubs was a “special moment”.

”We’re very excited to be teaming up with Australia Zoo to celebrate such a special moment for the red panda habitat,” he said.

“Our latest DUPLO My First Bath Time Fun range features a red panda, so we knew it was a natural partnership.

“We believe it’s important to play our part in building a sustainable future, and Australia Zoo’s work in conservation and protecting these endangered animals is an area we fully support.”

The charming duo.

The chosen name winners won a LEGO prize pack, an Australia Zoo Red Panda plush toy and Bindi Irwin’s Creating a Conservation Legacy book.

The school holidays are the perfect time to visit Teddy and Scarlett in their new habitat.
