The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has ramped up the fight against online predators with new tools to help educate parents and children about the dangers of the web.
The internet has enabled children and teenagers to connect with their friends and learn from home during the COVID-19 crisis.
But it’s also provided a fertile hunting ground for predators with online predatory behaviour increasing by 122 per cent since lockdowns started, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation says.
“If you’re not talking to your child, who is?” Bruce Morcombe said.
“A lot of parents second guess themselves around online safety, believing that their kids are the experts when it comes to technology.”
The foundation has released the Safe Bedrooms information pack.
It contains educational material for children to help them understand grooming and the ways in which it differs from healthy relationships.
It also provides online safety tips and information for parents and carers on how to recognise online grooming.
“We want parents and carers, as well as youngsters, to be informed and aware – not afraid,” Mr Morcombe said.
