Two Sunshine Coast mates have celebrated in style after winning $7.6 million.

The men from Maroochydore were quick to shout everyone a drink at Club Maroochy in after learning of their lucky break.

They scored the Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot jackpot in Keno draw 498, drawn on Saturday October 10, to share $7,642,776.

It’s one of the biggest single ticket Keno wins in Australian history.

The pair were enjoying a night out when their long-played numbers delivered the surprise.

“We’re very excited. It was Saturday night and we were the only ones playing Keno,” one of them said.

“My friend said to me: ‘Do we change our numbers?’.

“We had five on the top half and five on the bottom half of the ticket.

“I said: ‘No, I like these numbers. Let’s just go with them’. Thank goodness we did.

“The next thing we knew, we saw Club Maroochy had a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot win. It came up on the club TV.

“I leaned over and whispered in my friend’s ear: ‘Don’t get too excited but I think we might’ve won the Keno 10 Spot’.

“He pulled out the ticket and started cross-checking the numbers online. We then asked the venue to call the Keno customer service team to make sure we had definitely won.

“Once it was confirmed, we put money on the bar. Drinks were on us. Everyone was celebrating with us. It was unreal.

“We’re best friends and we go on holidays together, so sharing this win makes it even more special.”

When asked how they planned to enjoy their shares of the windfall, they had a couple of plans in mind.

“Initially, I was keen to buy a unit but now that this has happened I think I’ll buy a house. I’m also keen to gift my partner and children some of the prize for Christmas.

“My friend has decided to put some into a long-term deposit for a couple of months.”

Club Maroochy general manager Patrick Magrin said it was incredible to have sold a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot jackpot winning ticket.

“It was awesome. Honestly, awesome is probably an understatement,” he exclaimed.

“The whole atmosphere in the club changed when the win went off: the vibe in the air. Everyone was so excited. The two guys shouted everyone in the club drinks as well.

“On behalf of everyone at Club Maroochy, congratulations on your amazing win. We hope you can enjoy it for years to come.”
