I am pretty sure I am jinxed in some capacity. Don’t get me wrong, I have had, and hope to continue to have, a good life and am extremely grateful for that.

But maybe it’s because, at a young age, my dear old dad gave me some unwanted advice: “Remember son, your last name is Robinson. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, as we have no luck at all”.

In fact, we do have luck – two types: bad luck and no luck at all. I mention this as the other day, while I was in at 92.7 Mix FM with Sami and Ben, we were talking about Sami and her bad driving. It was funny at the time – well, at least for Ben and me.

I went home and Old Mate was out. Bonus! I headed off for a nanna nap, only to be woken about 20 minutes later when Old Mate came home, yelling: “Sorry dear, I have made a mess in my car”.

A lovely way to be woken up. I immediately thought bird seed, food or some other type of spillage.

At the same time, our oldest son arrived for a visit, and his mother handed him a piece of plastic she thought had bumped off her car when leaving her friend’s place.

He went out to put it back on and then called me, laughing. We both saw what the mess was. Half her front bumper was smashed to bits. We were gobsmacked and asked her what happened.

“I bumped into a retaining wall as I was backing out and my friend just handed me that bit of plastic – so I thought it had just popped off. I never even got out of the car,” Old Mate said.

The two males in the conversation were amazed about a few things. Firstly, didn’t she feel the bang when she hit the wall? If not, didn’t she hear it? No and no.

I then asked her how come her friend didn’t say something. Well, we all know Old Mate is deaf, and apparently her friend is on the way to being blind if she couldn’t see the damage inflicted on the front of the car.

Of course, I was given the job of finding someone to repair this mess. When I called, I got a lovely female receptionist. I told her the story and she replied, “The wall must have jumped out in front of her”.

I then texted Sami to tell her she had jinxed me. After I told her the story, her reply was, “The wall must have jumped out in front of her.”

The sisterhood certainly sticks together.
