A town’s main bridge will be closed overnight to allow the next stage of its upgrade to get underway.
The gateway to Tewantin, the Doonella Bridge, will be shut from 8.15pm on Sunday, August 30, until 5am on Monday, August 31.
The closure will be required to safely switch traffic onto the newly completed southern side of the bridge, to allow works to start on the northern side.
Traffic will need to go via Beckmans Road during the night, while pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the adjacent pedestrian bridge.
A Noosa Council media update stated that the night represented a milestone for the project, and authorities thanked locals for their patience.
“This is an important step in the project, signalling the completion of work on the southern side of the bridge.
“Final asphalt surfacing and relocation of the sewer main will take place later. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
“During the night works, there will be increased construction activity, lighting and additional noise.
“Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible.”

Single-lane, alternating traffic was introduced in July, with council saying early indications showed the arrangement was helping traffic flow.
It came after the council’s initial plan to divert westbound traffic prompted widespread community backlash.
The $9.2 million upgrade is designed to prevent further deterioration of the 58-year-old bridge. Works are expected to take about six months.
