A petition calling for one-way traffic flow along a section of Golden Beach Esplanade has been presented to Sunshine Coast Council.
Created by Kevin Wright, the petition has attracted 101 signatures and requests one-way traffic flow between Nelson Street and Onslow Street.
It was delivered by councillor Terry Landsberg at council’s ordinary meeting on July 23, where councillors unanimously voted to receive the request and refer it to the CEO to determine the appropriate action.
Cr Landsberg explained the background behind the proposal during the meeting.
“This is due to the inability for vehicles to travel in both directions at the same time, concerns a number of vehicles with parking and accessibility along the front there,” he said.
The request comes after a temporary one-way traffic arrangement was introduced during the recently completed TS Onslow project.

A seawall was reconstructed at Golden Beach, from Nelson Street to the TS Onslow Naval Cadets site, after the area was impacted by extreme weather from 2021-2022 and the widening Bribie Island tidal breakthrough.
“The public have seen a very well controlled traffic environment during these works,” Cr Landsberg said.
“Obviously the local residents are supportive of keeping it one way. But as per the contractor’s responsibilities of approval, they had to put it back to the original traffic direction which is both ways.”
Cr Landsberg said he supported the intent of the request.
“It is a very well-presented petition,” he said.
Council will now consider the request and determine what action, if any, will be taken.
