Remedial works to make the streets of a hinterland town centre safer and more pedestrian-friendly are set to begin.
The proposed project is designed to slow traffic, enhance pedestrian safety and preserve Pomona’s village character.
The detailed design stage for Factory Street improvements are now complete and the remaining town centre design is also nearing finalisation.
Key features of the project include new pedestrian crossings, raised township entry road treatments and a reduced 40km/h speed limit through the town centre.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads stated construction would be delivered in two stages.
Stage 1, which focuses on Factory Street improvements, is expected to commence in late 2026. Stage 2, covering the wider town centre, will follow.
The project is a direct response to years of strong community advocacy for safer streets in the hinterland town’s centre.
TMR said the Queensland Government had worked closely with Noosa Council throughout the design process to ensure the project aligned with the Pomona Place Plan and reflected community feedback on safety, accessibility and town character.
TMR North Coast regional director Melanie Dei Rossi said the project reflected the department’s commitment to delivering practical safety improvements for local communities.
“We’ve worked closely with Noosa Shire Council and the local community to understand the issues in Pomona and identify practical ways to improve safety,” Ms Dei Rossi said.
“These improvements will help slow traffic and make the town centre safer and more welcoming.”
