The Alexandra Headland Malibu Club is hosting its annual Winter Longboard Classic from June 12-14, marking the 44th anniversary of the surfing event.
The event, held at The Bluff, Alexandra Headland, attracts entrants from all over Australia, as well as a strong local contingent.
It was named Sunshine Coast Federation Sporting Event of the Year in 2019.
Club president Kevin Annetts said the competition had a strong family focus, with multiple generations often competing.
“Over the decades of the event, families have always competed together, with mums and dads surfing in their chosen divisions alongside their sons, daughters and even grandchildren,” he said.
“Everyone spends the day at the beach together, which makes it a true family surfing event over three days, with plenty of competitor prizes, surfboard raffles and an auction offering a surfing and cultural experience to Nusa Island Retreat in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea.”
The event consistently attracts high-level competitors.
“The event attracts some of the best surfers in the country every year, including past and current Queensland and Australian champions, and even a World Champion,” Mr Annetts said.
“Spectators will see an exceptional standard of surfing across the three days, with finals taking place on the Sunday.”
