A popular cafe in Cotton Tree was left reeling over Easter after a random act of vandalism shattered one of its front windows.

Police confirmed they were investigating after an unknown offender threw a pot plant through the front window of the Silva Spoon on Cotton Tree Parade sometime between April 4 and 7am on April 5.

Owners Fabrizia Roberto and Nick Laolao were not at the cafe when the damage occurred.

“My husband and I were in the middle of an Easter egg hunt with family, and it was only at about 7am that we saw the messages and photos about one of the front glass panels having been smashed,” Ms Roberto said.

“We dropped everything and rushed in, fearing the worst.

“It does appear to be a random, senseless act. Luckily, they did not enter the premises as the damage could have been much greater.”

The cafe sustained damage in a random act of vandalism, leaving the shop exposed early Easter Sunday.

The cafe experienced some disruption as the team cleaned up and secured the site, with a glazier called in on the public holiday.

“Going from the highs of being awarded Best Tea House in Queensland, and having four of our tea blend also awarded at the annual Golden Leaf Awards a few weeks ago, to finding out someone had smashed our window and left the shop exposed overnight is definitely example of the rollercoaster that’s running a small business,” Ms Roberto said.

“We are grateful the damage was limited, nobody was hurt and while it was an emotional day, the support we received has re-energised us and we are very thankful.”

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed that nothing was stolen and encouraged anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.
