Work has commenced on the final stage of villas at a Sunshine Coast retirement community after the previous four stages sold out.

The last stage of Aveo’s Sunset Palms at Palmview comprises 34 two- and three-bedroom villas.

“This last stage of new villas will complete the final chapter of the Sunset Palms community and we’re excited to welcome new residents and their stories,” community manager Alex Decorso said.

“Although we’re building new homes, it’s the people that make all the difference and continue to rewrite the rules of retirement living.”

The villas feature kitchens and bathrooms designed with accessibility in mind, no steps or trip hazards, generous storage, secure attached garages and 24-hour emergency call systems, all within a gated community.

Other amenities and services include a pool, gym, hair salon, library, dining, bar and games room, barbecue facilities, vegetable garden, care and support services, home maintenance and community bus.

The first release of 18 homes in Stage 5A are now selling, with prices from $630,000 to $895,000. The first new villas will be ready to move in by mid this year.

Sunset Palms will be home to 135 independent living villas upon completion.

Residents David and Moira Stone have loved the move since relocating from their large Tin Can Bay home.

“There’s a bit of a stereotype out there that retirement villages are full of old people knitting and tripping over walkers, but it couldn’t be further from the truth,” Mr Stone said.

“One of the secrets to coming into a community like this is getting involved. If I look at my calendar and find a blank date, I think I must have forgotten to put something down because we live around such a fun group of people.

“That said, if you don’t want to get involved, you don’t have to – some neighbours enjoy a quiet life here, and that’s okay too. You can opt in or out as you wish, and it never feels like you’re living in each other’s pockets because privacy is respected.”

Mr Stone said the ease of living and sense of community were so appealing that even friends have chosen to relocate and become neighbours too.

“Friends of ours came to visit and have since moved into the community as well. Like us, they said if they knew how good this place was, they would have made the move years ago,” he said.

Sunset Palms is at 58 Harmony Boulevard.
