A man has been charged with rape following an alleged sexual assault involving a woman he met through an online dating app.

Detectives from the Caloundra Criminal Investigation Branch allege the man communicated with the woman online between February 15 and February 20 before visiting her home in Nirimba on February 21.

Police will allege the 35-year-old Meridan Plains man sexually assaulted the woman after arriving at the address.

It will also be alleged the man posted an incorrect age for himself on the dating app during the conversations.

He has been charged with one count of rape and one count of contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

The man was due to face the Caloundra Magistrates Court on March 6.

Investigations are continuing and police believe other people may have information about this matter or other possible incidents. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
