A hinterland estate known as Tera Alta, which blends productive farming capability with architectural excellence, is set to go under the hammer.

Owned by Bruce and Sue Whiteford, the property sits on 20.5 hectares of fertile volcanic soil at 491 Maleny-Stanley River Road, Wootha, about 5km from Maleny’s town centre.

The property is being marketed by Ray White Rural Queensland principal Jez McNamara and offers privacy, productivity and accessibility to the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

The Whitefords purchased the property in 2009 and set about creating their vision of the perfect hinterland retreat, commissioning Mooloolaba-based Core Architects to design the two-storey main residence, which was completed in 2012.

The brief to the architect, Ken Down, was to provide open-plan living and get views from every room.

“Every living space, including the bedrooms, was to have a panoramic vista,” Mr Whiteford said.

The design includes extensive glazing to make the most of the property’s views.

“My favourite part is the views from the top of the veranda in the main house – we can see across to the Glass House Mountains and even glimpse the ocean on a clear day.

“The vistas are absolutely beautiful.”

The architectural residence features stone walls, soaring ceilings, extensive glazing, polished timber floors and travertine finishes throughout.

The property runs 20 to 25 droughtmaster stud cattle and has extensive vegetable gardens that have consistently produced more than the family could consume.

The two-storey has features open-plan living.

There are also three donkeys on site.

The property includes a fully self-contained cottage at the front of the property, quality shedding, cattle yards, laneways and water security including tanks, bore and dams.

“It’s an ideal property for someone who wants to semi-retire from the bush and come off a big farm but still have some land around them or have that beautiful space to escape to from city life for holidays and weekends,” Mr Whiteford said.

The property is set to go to auction on March 6.
