A long-distance budget-friendly coach operator is spruiking $9.99 fares to coincide with the launch of new Brisbane-to-Cairns and Sydney-to-Brisbane bus routes.

The two new routes, which begin operating from December 18, form part of FlixBus’ expansion along Australia’s east coast. Combined, the two routes will connect five city hubs, 34 regional destinations and five airports.

The Brisbane-to-Cairns route includes key Sunshine Coast stops at Mooloolaba, Maroochydore and Noosa.

Both routes will run daily in partnership with Lone Star Coachlines and Bundaberg Coaches.

To mark the launch, FlixBus has extended its $9.99 ticket promotion on all its routes until January 5, valid for travel through February 2026. Passengers can book and manage trips through the FlixBus app or website, with digital ticketing, real-time information and onboard extras including free Wi-Fi.

FlixBus, which has carried more than 500 million passengers worldwide across 45 countries, continues to expand its long-distance networks across Australia, South America and India as part of its global sustainability strategy.

FlixBus is adding a Sydney-Brisbane and Brisbane-Cairns service this summer.

According to the company, coach travel remains one of the most environmentally friendly transport options, with shifts from car to coach cutting individual carbon footprints by up to 84 per cent.

FlixBus Australia senior managing director Yvan Lefranc-Morin said the company was focused on giving Australians an easy, low-cost and environmentally conscious way to travel this summer.

“We’re stoked to be extending affordable and sustainable travel options for Australians and everyone travelling on the Australian east coast in time for the summer and holiday seasons,” he said.

“Whether you are visiting family or friends, trying to get away, discovering the regional gems in the Australian backyards or backpacking up and down the coast, we want to be part of your journey.”

Mr Lefranc-Morin said the rapid uptake of earlier FlixBus routes — including Sydney to Melbourne and Sydney to Canberra — showed Australians were embracing low-cost, climate-friendly ways to move around the country.

“It shows our efforts to go beyond being an affordable and sustainable travel option by offering a comfortable and connected journey are resonating with Australians,” he said.
