Detectives from the Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are appealing for public assistance after a man sustained a traumatic brain injury during an alleged unprovoked assault in Gympie on November 21.

Police allege the incident occurred at approximately 11.20pm on Friday night on Mary Street, near Memorial Lane, where a 40-year-old man was assaulted.

A 21-year-old Gympie man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to next appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on 23 February, 2026.

Detectives are seeking any witnesses — including several people believed to have rendered assistance to the victim — to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
