After 30 years at one of Mooloolaba’s most recognisable dining spots, Montezuma’s is preparing to pack up its sombreros and move locations.

The Mexican restaurant will shift in December as it enters what operators describe as an “exciting new chapter”.

“Montezuma’s Mooloolaba was proudly founded and operated for many years by local Mooloolaba residents, earning its place as a beloved part of the community,” Montezuma’s group operations manager Tegan Berry said.

“In more recent years, ownership transitioned to the Montezuma’s Queensland owned-and-based franchisor, who remains committed to preserving the venue’s legacy while leading it into an exciting new chapter – including its upcoming relocation.”

Ms Berry said the franchisor team preferred to stay behind the scenes but remained committed to keeping the restaurant local in spirit.

“They would be excited to consider expressions of interest from capable local operators who share a passion for hospitality and may be interested in partnering to grow the business into the future,” she said.

After decades of celebrations, family meals and the sound of clinking margarita glasses at the long-standing premises, the team felt it was the right moment for a refresh.

“For over 30 incredible years, our current location has been the backdrop to countless fiestas, family dinners, and unforgettable moments,” Ms Berry said.

“Now, we’re moving just around the corner to a brand-new space at 5/19 First Avenue, Mooloolaba. This fresh venue gives us room to grow, evolve, and turn up the flavour while still delivering the same warm hospitality and vibrant experiences.”

The new space will come with several additions that long-time patrons and newcomers can look forward to.

The new menu will introduce a Mexican-style breakfast to Mooloolaba.

“Guests can look forward to live music on weekend afternoons, extended trading hours, and a vibrant new bar serving tap beers and our signature Margaritas,” Ms Berry said.

“We’re also delighted to introduce a Mexican-style breakfast to Mooloolaba, adding a fresh and flavourful option to the area’s fantastic dining scene.”

The restaurant is currently undergoing its fit-out, with hopes to open the doors in December.

“A grand opening is definitely on the agenda. Follow our socials for updates on the move and celebration,” Ms Berry said.
