A man has been charged after he allegedly rammed a police car and threatened officers with a knife.

About 8.50pm yesterday, two officers returned to the Maroochydore Police Station car park in an unmarked vehicle. It will be alleged a white Mercedes sedan drove at the police vehicle at speed, ramming into the rear of it.

It will be further alleged that the driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes then threatened the officers with a knife and lunged at them. A number of shots were fired at the man before a third officer successfully deployed a taser, and the man was arrested.

The 53-year-old Eumundi man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, going armed to cause fear, possession of a weapon (category M), trespass and three counts of serious assault police officer whilst armed.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.

No officers were physically injured during the incident, which will now be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command.
