A multimillion-dollar revamp of a well-known commercial and retail hub on the Sunshine Coast is about to get underway.

A revitalisation of C-Square in downtown Nambour is set to start on Wednesday and is expected to take about a year.

Sandran Property Group, which took ownership of the Currie Street complex in 2021, will overhaul it with upgraded commercial and retail tenancies, vibrant public spaces and new landscaping and facade treatments.

Significant improvements will be made to accessibility and building compliance, with mechanical, fire and electrical systems to be overhauled to meet modern standards.

A principal contractor has been secured, along with design and services consultants, and early enabling works are already underway.

Sandran, which has not disclosed the exact cost of the works, is targeting a stronger mix of commercial, hospitality, retail and community facilities to complement existing businesses and attract more visitors to Nambour. Sandran last year invested into a $1 million fit-out of the C-Square cinema.

Managing director William Phillips said the company was committed to the precinct and the town.

“We believe in the future of Nambour and are proud to play our part in its revitalisation,” he said.

“C-Square will be reimagined as a modern, sustainable and community-focused precinct that supports local jobs, attracts new businesses and delivers spaces the whole community can be proud of.”

It’s one of a handful of major projects earmarked for the town.

Development applications have been lodged for projects including a 152-apartment block on the corner of Currie and Bury streets, and a five-storey childcare facility on Howard Street.

Sunshine Coast Council has committed to a streetscape project and public building upgrade, and the state government has supported the relocation of a low-cost supermarket and announced an upgraded CCTV and Police Beat, amid efforts to tackle an escalating homelessness crisis that has raised safety concerns.
