Two people have been charged after investigations into an alleged armed robbery and assault incident on Sunday.

After intensive investigations by the Petrie Criminal Investigation Branch, a 35-year-old Granville man and a 26-year-old Maryborough woman were arrested on Saltwater Creek Road in St Helens, near Maryborough, about 7.35am today.

Investigations indicate that about 5.45am on Sunday the man and woman attended a service station on the Bruce Highway at Morayfield, where they allegedly assaulted two women and unsuccessfully attempted to steal their vehicles.

The pair then allegedly approached a red Mitsubishi Outlander and assaulted its driver, before they stole the vehicle and fled the area, heading north on the Bruce Highway.

During these incidents, it’s alleged the two offenders threatened drivers with a firearm.

At 11.15am, police received information that the Outlander had crashed into trees near a property on Old Caloundra Road in Glenview, and that a man and woman were seen fleeing the area on foot.

Officers declared an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act, however following an extensive search of the area the pair were unable to be located. A homemade firearm was located near the vehicle.

The man has been charged with two counts of robbery armed and in company, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, robbery used personal violence and in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious assault person over 60.

He has been refused police bail and is due to appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The woman has been charged with two counts of robbery armed and in company, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, serious assault person over 60, robbery used personal violence and in company and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She has been refused police bail and is also due to appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations are ongoing.
