An airline will deploy its latest planes on key Sunshine Coast routes, offering a “more comfortable and quieter” flying experience.
QantasLink will start operating state-of-the-art Airbus A220 aircraft on flights from Maroochydore to Sydney and Melbourne, replacing 737s, in February.
The A220s have achieved the highest customer satisfaction of any aircraft in Qantas’ domestic fleet during recent months.
To facilitate the changes, QantasLink has made schedule changes to a small number of flights between the destinations.
QantasLink is undergoing a historic jet and turboprop fleet renewal project, which includes the introduction of 29 A220 aircraft and the transition to a single fleet of Q400s, which is set to improve reliability, reduce emissions per seat and ensure the airline can keep delivering for customers.

Qantas has taken delivery of six new Airbus A220 aircraft, with seven due for delivery in the current financial year.
The A220s include: David Caon-designed interiors with custom-designed leather seats featuring increased pitch and width; increased overhead compartment storage for carry-on items; ambient LED lighting; minimised cabin noise compared to previous generation aircraft; reduced noise and fuel emissions; and fast and free inflight WiFi.
QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan lauded the planes.
“We know our customers love flying on our brand new A220s and this expansion means more people will be able to experience the benefits of these aircraft when flying to and from the Sunshine Coast,” she said.
“Not only are the A220s more comfortable, they’re also quieter and generate up to 25 per cent fewer carbon emissions, which is critical as we work towards our net zero target.”
Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills welcomed the announcement.
“The introduction of these new aircraft from February 2026, between the Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Melbourne, represents a great step forward in terms of sustainability and passenger experience,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing the A220s deployed next year to support the increasing demand for travel in and out of our region.”
