A Queensland police sergeant has been charged and suspended following allegations of accessing, possessing and distributing child exploitation material.

The 40-year-old man from the North Coast Region (Moreton, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay Burnett) has been charged with three counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count of distributing child exploitation material, allegedly committed while off duty.

He has been suspended from the Queensland Police Service and is expected to appear in the Sandgate Magistrates Court on September 11.

The QPS issued a media release that stated: “In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the service faces serious allegations of misconduct”.
