A woman has died and two people have been seriously injured in a head-on crash north-west of the Sunshine Coast.

Emergency services were called to Mary Valley Road at Gilldora just before midday on Friday, after a collision between a blue Ford Falcon and a white Holden Colorado.

A passenger in the Ford, a 21-year-old Victory Heights woman was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, a 17-year-old Gympie boy, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The driver of the Holden, a 67-year-old Redbank Plains man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Gympie Hospital.

Mary Valley Road was temporarily closed between Ashton Road and Gilldora Road.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
