A scenic lakeside walking trail lined with tallowwood, eucalypt, paperbark and melaleuca has been upgraded and is now open for bushwalkers.

The 800m Tallowwood Walking Trail at Ewen Maddock Dam was smoothed, reshaped, widened to make the gentle walk more enjoyable for visitors.

Track drainage was also improved, which is significant given the dam is nearly at capacity. During the 2024-25 wet season the dam was hit by more than 2200mm of rain.

The trail begins on a boardwalk from Maddock Park and connects with the larger 8.1km Main Track, which is a shared trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

All trails in the Ewen Maddock Dam network are now open except the 1km Black Loop fire trail, which remains under repair.

Seqwater’s manager operations northern region Katie Jones said the upgraded walking track was a scenic start to the trails around the dam.

“The Tallowwood Walking Trail at Ewen Maddock Dam has received a fresh upgrade just in time for winter explorers,” she said.

“Whether you’re after a short, scenic lakeside stroll with the family or want to connect with Ewen Maddock’s longer trails, this walking track offers a beautiful starting point.

“Our dedicated team has been hard at work restoring and repairing the trails after this challenging wet season, with the rangers clearing fallen trees, managing vegetation and replenishing the lakeside beach.

“With everything looking so green and lush it’s the perfect time to come and visit.”
