Early investigations will begin in coming weeks to improve safety at a notorious hinterland road intersection.

The junction of Nambour Connection Road and Diddillibah Road in Woombye has been a black spot for years, according to Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt.

The slated $2.5 million upgrade will be delivered through the Australian Government’s Safer Roads, Better Transport Initiative.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads will soon undertake ground surveys to help shape the best possible design and solution.

Nearby property owners will be contacted so survey teams can access land around the intersection. This work will help identify hazards, map existing infrastructure and ensure the project is planned to the highest safety standards.

Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie said the project was about delivering on a pre-election promise of safer roads for locals.

“These surveys are a critical first step to make sure the final design improves safety, tackles congestion and meets the needs of everyone who uses this busy intersection,” Mr Purdie said.

A concept layout will be released once planning progresses.

“This intersection has been a danger and a source of frustration for years – our community deserves better,” Mr Hunt said.

“Dan and I stood here and promised this $2.5 million upgrade before the election, and now we’re delivering it through the Safer Roads, Better Transport Initiative.

“We’ll keep our communities updated as more information comes to hand.”
