Detectives are appealing for public assistance following a vehicle fire in bushland near a highway.

Initial investigations indicate that about 4.10pm on June 29, a Toyota HiLux – believed to have been stolen from a Bilenda Close property at Beerwah on June 24 – was abandoned in bushland near Roys Road and the Bruce Highway before being set alight.

A man wearing black clothing was reportedly seen running from the vehicle around the time of the incident.

Police urged anyone with information about the man’s movements or dashcam footage from Roys Road and the Bruce Highway about 4.15pm on June 29 to contact them.
