A Sunshine Coast teenager and a man have been airlifted to hospital after a major highway crash.

The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the incident at Colinton, in the Somerset Region, which occurred on Thursday night.

Initial investigations indicate that a Ford Falcon sedan and a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV collided on the D’Aguilar Highway near Nurinda Road at about 7pm.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a 19-year-old Glass House Mountains man, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

He was in a stable condition by Saturday.

The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old Hodgleigh man, sustained serious injuries and was also airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information or CCTV/dashcam vision to come forward.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said the teenager was airlifted in a life-threatening condition with abdominal injuries and that the 38-year-old was airlifted in a potentially life-threatening condition with head injuries.
