A new pump track, designed with community input, is now open for families and avid bike riders to access.

While the track at Forestwood Drive Park, Buderim, was designed with teenagers and young adults in mind, families and children of all ages are also encouraged to use it.

The undulating dirt track was sculpted with beginner and intermediate riders in mind.

A pump track is where riders generate momentum on their bikes through up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing.

The track was nearly two years in the making. Sunshine Coast Council asked the community about the best location for a pump track and received support to build the track at Forestwood Drive Park in September 2023.

In December 2024 the location and concept design were again shared with the community, and in January 2025 council invited the community to have their say on the design.

The pump track was designed with help from the community.

Division 7 councillor Ted Hungerford said the council was able to incorporate some of the community’s suggestions into the design of the pump track and surrounds.

“Some of the amendments included additional buffer planting and barriers, more seating for park users to sit and watch the action, as well as additional shade trees,” Cr Hungerford said.

“We will also investigate providing a shade sail over part of the pump track and a drink fountain in the park, for possible implementation in future years.”

The council asks riders to be courteous and respectful while using the pump track.

“Let’s ensure that everyone can enjoy this new facility, while being mindful of the surrounding neighbourhood,” Cr Hungerford said.

Another pump track for all ages is located at Sugar Bag Road Town Reserve in Caloundra West.

A pump track is also being designed and planned for delivery at the Lions and Norrie Job Park in Coolum.
