A new state primary school will be built in a rapidly expanding community on the Sunshine Coast.

About 1140 students are set to attend the Caloundra South facility, which is set to open in 2028.

Queensland Treasurer David Janetzki said the precinct – to be located between Western Drive, Tyndall Circuit and Hotham Crescent at Banya – will help meet the needs of a surging population.

“This is one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions and we have a responsibility to provide the core services and facilities, such as schools,” he said.

“Delivering world-class educational facilities for Queensland kids right across the state is a huge priority for us and we are committed to delivering that.

“All children are entitled to positive learning environments close to where they live.”

Funding details for the facility – unofficially called Caloundra South State School – will be announced in the State Budget.

Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the school would provide a strong foundation for children.

“We are getting back to the basics to improve education outcomes: more reading, more writing and better facilities to help children succeed and thrive,” he said.

Member for Caloundra Kendall Morton said the school would service the fastest-growing area on the Sunshine Coast, accounting for 21 per cent of population growth in the local government area.

“The new Caloundra South state school will benefit local families and build a brighter future for the next generation of students in this fast-growing area,” she said.
