A Sunshine Coast man who thought he’d won $500 is set to enter the property market after discovering the real worth of his lotto ticket.

The Palmwoods man held one of 12 division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4581, and is set to collect $546,076.

He’s the latest in a string of major lotto winners from the Sunshine Coast. There have been eight of them within the past six months, capturing a collective $7 million-plus.

The man thought he had won a few hundred dollars before he realised he had won much more.

“I had to look at it (the winning online ticket) three or four times on Saturday to make sure I was seeing it correctly,” he laughed.

The man could use the winnings to buy property.

“I thought it was only $500 at first and then I looked again and thought I read $5000.

“I said ‘Hang on, the decimal is way further’.”

He said he played lotto “now and then” and he was “very shocked” to win.

“I’ve been wanting to buy a house or a block of land for a while: get into the property market,” he said. “This is so exciting.”

His 50-game QuickPick was purchased on The Lott website, the official home of Australia’s lotteries.

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4581 on June 14 were 1, 28, 19, 6, 17 and 10, while the supplementary numbers were 35 and 14.
