A dingo has injured a boy before passers-by came to his aid on the coast of K’gari.

The nine-year-old was hurt at Yidney Rocks, a landmark on the far-reaching eastern beach.

The dingo was then injured by people who ran to help him.

The boy was transported to hospital for treatment.

Rangers started a search for the dingo and were expected to increase patrols in the area.

It was the latest in a string of dingo incidents.

A man was bitten by a dingo while fishing in knee-deep water last week and a woman was bitten on the hands last month.

It was revealed in early April that there were almost 30-high risk incidents involving dingoes in about three months.

The Department of Environment urged visitors to K’gari to keep a stick with them and watch children at all times.

“Visitors to K’gari are reminded to: always stay close (within arm’s reach) to children and young teenagers; always walk in groups and carry a stick; never feed dingoes; camp in fenced areas where possible; do not run: running or jogging can trigger a negative dingo interaction; lock up food stores and iceboxes (even on a boat); never store food or food containers in tents; and secure all rubbish, fish and bait,” they stated in a media release.

“Report any concerning dingo encounters by calling 07 4127 9150 or emailing dingo.ranger@des.qld.gov.au”
