A long-awaited pedestrian bridge has been lifted into position, marking a milestone for a $6 million safety project.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads said the bridge had been craned into place, spanning the North Maroochy River near Seib Road at Eumundi.
The bridge runs adjacent to Eumundi-Noosa Road.
When fully complete, it is set to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the river. Currently, they share the road bridge with vehicles and there is less than a metre of shoulder.
The installation was carried out at night on Tuesday, May 6, when the road was closed.

The structure was assembled off site before being transported and craned into position.
The entire operation took about seven hours to complete.
The 30.2-tonne bridge was lifted into place as a single piece.
The construction of the bridge and associated components started in January and the project is anticipated to be completed within months.
TMR partnered with Sunshine Coast Council to develop the design for the bridge, pathway and boardwalk, which is something locals have been calling for.
The council is leading the project through the construction phase.
It is funded by the federal and state governments, via a 50:50 split as part of the Road Safety Program.
Transport and Main Roads North Coast Region regional director Scott Whitaker thanked community members for their patience while the upgrades are delivered.
“It’s exciting to see such a significant new piece of infrastructure installed in one night,” he said.
“Residents and visitors can now look forward to the bridge, boardwalk and footpath opening for use later this year.
“The pedestrian bridge adjacent to Eumundi-Noosa Road highlights that road safety includes everyone, not just motorists.
“Every Queenslander deserves a safer commute no matter the mode of transport.”
