An emerging 10-storey private hospital in the heart of the Sunshine Coast is significantly closer to opening.

McNab, the builder behind the $100 million Maroochy Private Hospital in Maroochydore’s CBD, held a ‘topping out’ celebration to mark the completion of the building’s highest structural point.

McNab CEO Kunjan Ganatra was delighted by the occasion.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our clients, their future tenants and our extended construction team,” he said.

“Despite facing more than 30 working days of inclement weather since construction began early last year, our team has worked tirelessly to mitigate these delays and maintain strong productivity, allowing us to remain four weeks ahead of the base-build schedule.”

Maroochy Private Hospital is a joint development by Fortius Hospitals and Barwon Investment Partners, offering 11,876sqm of diverse surgical specialties, along with integrated healthcare services including pain management, sports medicine and allied health.

Associate Professor Daevyd Rodda said the topping out ceremony was a significant milestone in delivering a purpose-built hospital that puts patient experience and world-class surgical outcomes as the highest priority.

“Once operational, Maroochy Private Hospital will create more than 400 local jobs and bring together a collaborative network of surgical specialists and service providers from allied health, advanced medical imaging to research, clinical trials and medical education, many of whom are expanding their Sunshine Coast teams to be part of this innovative health and research hub,” he said.

“With only a few final tenancies remaining, we’re proud to be shaping a space designed for connection, advancement, and ultimately, better outcomes for our patients.”

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the Maroochy Private Hospital’s topping out ceremony marked another chapter in the evolution of the Maroochydore City Centre.

“This world-class facility will significantly expand our community’s access to advanced health services, while strengthening the Sunshine Coast as a destination of choice for progressive infrastructure and investment,” she said.

“Additionally, with the announcement of funding for the integrated Athlete Village, arena and cultural precinct, the City Centre continues to illustrate our region’s commitment to enriching the lives of our residents and providing them with transformative opportunities.”

Mr Ganatra said the onsite construction team was proud to be delivering its second landmark project for the growing Maroochydore CBD skyline, following the successful 2023 completion of the award-winning Sunshine Coast City Hall, located just across the park from the hospital.

“The hospital is the 10th building underway in Australia’s largest greenfield CBD and will be a significant and impressive addition to the growing precinct, which is a product of the collaborative Sunshine Coast Council, Walker Corporation, and SunCentral Maroochydore partnership,” he said.

“The hospital’s design showcases a striking glazed façade, with natural light streaming into the main stairs through a curtain-wall glazing system — a feature especially beneficial for medical professionals who often spend long hours working under artificial light, while also serving as a distinctive architectural feature.

“The building’s curved glass corners, large concrete cantilever on Level 8, and impressive 9m-tall steel and aluminium fins on Levels 8 and 9 further contribute to its bold and modern aesthetic.

“The 10-storey, state-of-the-art hospital is also on track to achieve a targeted 4-star Green Building rating, incorporating features such as a PV solar system, energy-efficient design principles, superior acoustic performance for occupant comfort, and low-embodied-carbon materials.”

The Maroochy Private Hospital is expected to open its doors in the first quarter of 2026.
