A crime scene has been declared after a fire tore through a home in the middle of the Sunshine Coast.

Police and a fire investigation unit are investigating the cause of the blaze, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to reports of a two-storey home on fire at Beach Parade at Cotton Tree, at about 2.50am.

Six Queensland Fire Department crews attended.

A spokesperson said the residence was “significantly involved” upon their arrival.

“We had firefighters do internal and external work, attacking the fire,” she said.

“They had to cut into the garage to (gain access).

“Firefighters also had a focus on protecting on one side of the property as there was a neighbouring home that was at risk of catching fire.”

All people who were inside the home were accounted for.

Neighbour Clint Meyers was up late when he heard the fire.

“I was sitting on the couch and heard the sound, pop, pop, pop, and I knew that sound was fire,” he said.

“I started yelling and waking up the people.”

Mr Meyers said there had only been one person at home next door when the fire broke out.

“By the time I ran around the front, she was coming out the front door.”

The fire was extinguished by 4.20am and firefighters remained on scene to conduct air monitoring.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed “police are investigating a house fire in Maroochydore”.

“Emergency services were called … following reports the house was fully engulfed.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Any witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police.”
