One of the last undeveloped sites along a main inner-city road has been sold and could be home to a Tesla showroom.

Lot 409 Flinders Lane, a 6066sqm block beside bustling Maroochy Boulevard, changed hands for $12.75 million.

Colliers managing director and selling agent Nick Dowling confirmed the sale.

While he wouldn’t disclose who the ultimate end user would be, there is a development application in progress, from LT Build, for a 3200sqm vehicle showroom and office.

Sunshine Coast News understands electric vehicle juggernaut Tesla is poised to operate there, as more commuters in the region embrace electric vehicles, and artist’s impressions of the development, released in December as part of the application, show Tesla signage.

Updated impressions, in February, do not include identification. Tesla has been approached for comment.

Mr Dowling said the developer had been seeking a high-profile site on the Sunshine Coast for some time.

“When we presented this site as an opportunity, they realised it is probably the most high-profile undeveloped site in Maroochydore and were quick to try and secure it,” he said.

He said the previous owners, who had held the site for about 19 years, had received multiple approaches but were patient to wait for a buyer that was willing to pay what they believed was the right price.

The site is in prime position next to Maroochy Boulevard.

The block is situated alongside Aldi and across the road from the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre.

The area is home to other high-profile automotive brands including Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Mazda and Volkswagen.

The development application planning report, by Innovative Planning Solutions, stated that a showroom would suit the area.

“The building has been designed to establish a close relationship and high-quality presentation to Maroochy Boulevard, with substantial glazing addressing the street and landscaping incorporated into the frontage,” it stated.

“The development has retained a consistent approach to a number of the existing developments in this area and delivers a modern and interesting corner.”

A public notification period was held from February 24 to March 17.
