Police are appealing for public assistance to identify two people who may be able to assist them with their investigations into a serious alleged assault.

Police are investigating reports that at about 6pm on Friday, January 24, two men travelling north along Beerburrum Road at Elimbah, in a light-coloured dual cab Toyota Hilux ute, have pulled over to the side of the road.

Initial investigations indicate the pair have exited the vehicle and approached a 70-year-old man who was sitting next to a roadside stall, before allegedly assaulting him and leaving the scene in their vehicle.

The man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, including vehicles driving in the area who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.

The people shown in the footage, or anyone who recognises them, is urged to contact police.

Investigations remain ongoing.
