Detectives are appealing for public assistance in relation to an alleged sexual assault incident at Mooloolaba late last year.

It will be alleged a 23-year-old Townsville man attended Mooloolaba Beach with a teenage girl between 10.30pm on November 30 and 1am on December 1, when he assaulted her and pushed her into the ocean.

The man was charged with one count of rape and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is due to reappear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on February 24.

The Maroochydore Child Protection and Investigation Unit is appealing for anyone who witnessed the alleged incident or approached the man and woman at the time to come forward. Quote this reference number: QP2402061854.
