A handful of Sunshine Coast teachers have been recognised with major industry accolades.
Rebecca Davies, Tenille Bainbridge, Luke McCormack, Nanine-Barbel Stewart and Paul Dionysius have earned Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) TEACHX Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding teachers from state and non-state schools, and early childhood and university settings.
Ms Davies (Peregian Beach College) was acknowledged for Excellence in Teaching, while Ms Bainbridge (Chancellor State College), Ms McCormack (Maroochydore State High School) and Ms Stewart (Coolum State High School) were recognised for Outstanding Contribution to School Community.
Mr Dionysius (Siena Catholic College) was noted for Innovation in Teaching.
Mr Dionysius also won the prestigious NGS Super Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in Secondary Schools at the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Excellence Awards.
QCT board chair Emeritus Professor Wendy Patton congratulated the TEACHX award winners ahead of the ceremony in Brisbane on October 24.
“This year’s recipients continue a proud tradition of exemplifying the extraordinary work teachers do to improve their students’ education and inspire their colleagues,” she said.
“Their enthusiasm, innovation and unwavering commitment to education have set a remarkable standard for excellence within our community.”
Mr Dionysius won one of BCE’s top awards for making digital technologies more accessible and engaging, breaking down the complexity of coding into creative and relatable projects that inspire students to explore and solve ‘real world’ problems.
Mr Dionysius in August delivered a keynote speech at the Western Australia Education Summit in Perth.
“Educators are eager to implement my program in their schools,” he said.
“The program is unique in that it makes digital solutions appealing to students by starting with the fun stuff and working back to the code.
“It’s a refreshing reboot to how technology education is traditionally taught.”
Siena Catholic College principal Sharon Collins said the award was a testament to his innovative approach.
“With tech giants and educators alike tuning into his methods, it’s clear that he is helping to write the next big chapter in tech education,” she said.
