A section of a popular Sunshine Coast hinterland road is set to receive significant upgrades.

A 1.2km stretch of Landsborough-Maleny Road will be improved through rehabilitation works.

The $910,000 project will involve asphalt resurfacing between McCarthy Road and Obi Lane South, along the eastern entrance to Maleny.

The works are intended to extend the pavement life, enhance the road surface quality and reduce the frequency and costs associated with regular maintenance of the road.

Construction is slated to start this month and is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

The contractor is scheduled to return in October to perform final line marking, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Department of Transport and Main Roads North Coast deputy regional director Justin Valks said the works would make a stark difference.

“Resurfacing and rehabilitation projects are vital in maintaining our road network to an exceptional standard and accommodating future traffic increases,” he said.

“Landsborough-Maleny Road is a crucial hinterland route that serves large numbers of day-trippers, motorcycle enthusiasts and numerous visitors drawn to the charm of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

“The upgraded road surface will surely be appreciated by the nearly 10,000 motorists who travel along this stretch of road daily.”

The resurfacing works have been fully funded by TMR as part of a five-year, $138 million Road Asset Management Contract recently awarded to Fulton Hogan.

It will be the second project to commence under the North Coast RAMC.

During the construction period, motorists should be prepared for delays and potential increases in travel time.

Traffic controllers will be on-site to guide motorists through the work zone safely.

Lane closures, reduced speed limits, road signage and variable message signs will be implemented to inform road users of the altered traffic conditions and to ensure the safety of motorists and road workers alike.

TMR also encourages motorists to visit QLDTraffic, download the QLDTraffic app, or call 13 19 40 for real-time traffic alerts, road closures and condition updates.
