Sunshine Coast voice teacher Michelle Bull will star in The Pirates of Penzance at Bokarina at the end of this month.
Ms Bull joins a cast of actors from Queensland and interstate, some with international experience, in Kirkman and Scott’s production of the famed musical.
She combines a busy performance career alongside working as a voice teacher at Sunshine Coast Grammar School and Tempo Allegro School of Music in Mooloolaba.
“The cast of this production are all incredible artists in their own right,” she said.
“It is such a privilege to work alongside them to create a show that I know is going to be very special.”
Ms Bull plays the part of Mabel, the main soprano lead.
“Mabel’s music is quite virtuosic in places and she is such a fabulous character. She’s a girl in love and also a strong, capable young woman, which is so much fun to explore,” she said.
The Pirates of Penzance is the first production for Sunshine Coast-based Kirkman and Scott, which comprises Ten Tenors member, musical director and co-owner Kim Kirkman, and ex-Sydney music theatre tenor Lincoln Scott, who has performed in opera and musical theatre internationally.
“Under the direction of Kim Kirkman, the quality of singing is outstanding,” Ms Bull said.
The production, directed by Mr Scott, also features a full orchestra and a chorus with local and Brisbane-based singers.
“Lincoln has performed in Pirates as a principal and as chorus and knows the show inside out. We are very lucky to have him,” Ms Bull said.
The Pirates of Penzance will be at Venue 114 on Friday, May 31, at 7.30pm; Saturday, June 1, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm; and Sunday, June 2, at 2.30pm. Tickets are available here.
