Australia’s tallest travelling observation wheel is returning to the Sunshine Coast for the first time in two years.

The Skyline Attractions Ferris Wheel will begin operating from Friday near the surf club at Kings Beach.

A trailer and crane arrived at the site, next to the water fountains, yesterday to begin assembling the attraction.

The structure, which has 24 gondolas seating up to 144 people, will provide 360-degree views of Caloundra and the hinterland’s mountains from its 35-metre-high peak for 10 weeks until July 21.

The Ferris wheel had successful stints at Bulcock Beach in 2021 and Coolum in 2022, but last year talks broke down between the attraction’s operators and Sunshine Coast Council, with the wheel instead being taken to Hervey Bay.

Division 2 councillor Terry Landsberg hoped its return would help boost business and tourism in the area.

“The relocation from Bulcock Beach to Kings Beach ensures the wheel won’t take up any car park spaces, while also enhancing the accessibility and enjoyment for visitors,” he said.

Jane Jones said her team at Skyline Attractions was thrilled to return to Caloundra.

“We are excited to be opening on the Sunshine Coast once again and create a buzz around town for locals and visitors,” she said.

“Working with all the lovely business owners in Caloundra was a highlight of our stay last time and we certainly hope to build on these relationships to celebrate and showcase the town from a different view.”

The Ferris wheel will run from 10am to 10pm. Tickets are $10 for kids and seniors, $15 for adults or $50 per gondola, which seats up to six people.
