A section of a popular viewing platform has been closed for community safety.
The cantilevered deck at the renowned Loo with a View has been roped off and a barrier installed by Sunshine Coast Council, after it was battered by the elements for years.
It comes ahead of the expected removal of the Loo with a View, which will make way for a new-look area called the Central Meeting Place on the Mooloolaba beachfront.
Sunshine Coast Council built infrastructure group executive Scott Taylor said public safety was council’s highest priority, with regular inspections occurring since temporary supports were installed on the deck in December.
“Based on expert advice, the cantilevered deck section on the Loo with a View has reached the end of its life and we have made the difficult decision to close the cantilevered deck section as it is no longer safe for public use,” he said.
“This decision has been made in the interests of everyone and we trust our community understands the safety reasons for this decision.
“A pedestrian barrier, which will not affect the views, has been installed to restrict access to the front of the cantilevered deck and the area underneath the deck.
“Our community can still access public toilets and council staff will continue to monitor and inspect the facility and undertake routine maintenance.
“Council has routinely maintained and serviced this much-loved facility, as we do for all our community assets, however there comes a point where they do reach end of life, especially in these highly corrosive coastal environments.

“The plan is for the facilities to be removed and replaced as part of stage two of the foreshore’s revitalisation.
“We will keep our community informed of stage two construction start dates.”
The new and improved public amenities form part of the Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation’s stage two Central Meeting Place design, including architecturally designed and fully accessible new public amenities, a new ocean viewing deck, new public toilets and showers, a Changing Places facility for people with high support needs and a new all-abilities ramp to provide easy access to the beach.
