A new stretch of the Sunshine Coast’s Coastal Pathway is close to completion.
Works started on the 1km link between beach access 233 (Coonang Crescent) to BA 229 (Kooring Drive) at Kawana on February 19, and is anticipated to be finished during the next month, depending on the weather.
The new section will include: a new 3m wide concrete path; people with disability access to the pathway at Pike Park; two new beach showers; three new seats; two new bike racks; and dunal revegetation and weed clearing.
In consideration of the turtle population, the pathway will not have any artificial lighting.
New planting along the pathway will further help to reduce light spill along the foreshore.
The 1km stretch is part of the Warana section of the planned 73km Coastal Pathway, which is set to run from Bells Creek in the south to Coolum in the north.
The pathway is a multiple stage project which will be completed during several years. subject to available funding.
Completion on the Warana section is expected by August, weather and site conditions permitting.
Council’s vision is for the pathway to be a world-class scenic route, connecting the coast through beaches, parks and open spaces. The pathway should provide people with the opportunity to explore the coast’s natural beauty, services and businesses.
The Coastal Pathway is part of the Sunshine Coast Council Community Strategy 2019-2041 designed for the community to live healthy and active lifestyles
The pathway is being completed and funded thanks to a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council and the state government, through the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.
